Citi-SMU Financial Literacy Workshop
The Citi-SMU Financial Literacy elective module invited instructors to share on financial planning and the basics of investment. In financial planning, we learnt how to allocate our finances for different uses, the various methods of purchasing assets (such as housing, car), and ways to save and spend money. We also learnt investment basics, such as how to read stock index graphs and spot trends, as well as how to use financial reports to assess the performance and value of companies to make better investment decisions. I found the elective to be meaningful because the skills and content that was covered were practical and useful in everyday life. This will be especially so in the future when we start making money, and knowing how to manage finances is an essential skill.
