Application Process For Admission Year 2016

The application period for HCI (IP) and NYGH (IP) is from 26 Oct to 6 Nov 2015.

DSA students can apply from 4 Jan to 15 Jan 2016.

JAE students can apply in January 2016 but the actual date will be announced later.

Introduction

For the Admission Year 2016, GATE and SMTP will have joint application process.

There are predominantly two admission process:

Every year, we offer HCI(high school) and NYGH a small number of places to directly admit the top students in each cohort into the GATE and SMTP special programmes
The students will be nominated by their high school teachers some time in Oct/Nov after their Secondary 4 results are released.

ALL students that are admitted through the Direct Admission Process will still need to apply through the application portal - http://applysmtpgate.hci.edu.sg.
Nominated students who have been accepted through "Direct Admission" cannot apply for other special programmes in college and will NOT be considered for other special programmes e.g. HP, LEP, BSP, AEP etc.
Students accepted through "Direct Admission" will be required to sit for the SMTP-GATE joint selection test for all subjects, solely for diagnostic purpose.
Offer is still provisional if the students has chosen to offer a subject combination that does not belong to a standard subject combination offered by GATE or SMTP.
For the year of 2016, standard combinations include Physics/Biology-Chemistry-Mathematics and Knowledge Inquiry (KI)*/Economics/Geography/Third Language.
If a student wishes to offer KI, he/she must further clear a selection test in Knowledge Inquiry.
Students admitted through this route must further meet the subject requirements to offer 4 H2 subjects.

The application period will vary for different intakes of students:
- All HCI(IP) students and NYGH(IP) students : 26 October 2015 to 6 Nov 2015
- DSA students : 4 Jan 2016 to 15 Jan 2016
- Joint-admission exercise students : Jan 2016, actual date to be announced later.
Interested students are to apply online at http://applysmtpgate.hci.edu.sg.
ALL applicants will be required to sit for a SMTP-GATE joint selection test on scientific and logical reasoning test. The test dates will differ based on the intake as well:
- NYGH(IP) and HCI(IP) students - Jan 2016
- DSA students - Jan 2016
- JAE students - when they report to school in 2016
- For HCI(IP), NYGH(IP) and DSA students please sign up for the selection test during the sign up for IP programmes.
- For JAE students who have been successfully admitted to HCI, please keep a lookout for the selection test date during briefing.
Selection will be based on :
- Sec 4 EOY results, including results of higher paper,
- other achievements,
- teacher's recommendation, and
- SMTP-GATE joint selection test results
Sufficient number of places will be reserved for JAE students, so they will not be disadvantaged in anyway.
