Date : Tuesday, 11 March 2014
Time : 2:00pm – 5:00 pm
Venue : DBS Auditorium, Marina Bay Financial Centre Tower 3
Celebrated annually on 15 February, Total Defence Day is an event that reminds Singaporeans of the difficult task of nation-building and of the need for all Singaporeans to work together to preserve our present prosperity and stability. This year’s theme for Total Defence Day is ‘30 Years of Total Defence: Because You Played A Part’. It celebrates the past and on-going efforts of Singaporeans from all walks of life in overcoming the many challenges that the country has faced and is facing. In commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of Total Defence, S’pore Discovery Centre has put up a special exhibition “On Guard” as well as exciting school programmes...
This year, Singapore Discovery Centre supported by the Ministry of Education, Character & Citizenship Education (CCE) Branch and NEXUS/MINDEF has specially organized a dialogue session which brought together speakers from the public and private sectors who shared how they support Total Defence as organizations or individuals.
Our C1 students from GATE was invited to partake in the event. They not only had a chance to tour the ‘Market Place’ and chat with representatives from various organizations and community groups to find out about their programmes and volunteering opportunities. They were also treated to an exclusive guided tour of Singapore’s latest financial hub, the Marina Bay Financial Centre (DBS Bank). Our students generally found the programme "refreshing".
Other details of the programme are given below, and you may want to read the Straits Times feature from the programme here.
